Environmental Scientist

Description

Duties & Responsibilities
The job generally requires the ability to do the following tasks related to restoration and rejuvenation of habitats:

  • Determine data collection methods, then collect and analyze samples of soil, water, air, and other materials
  • Conduct fieldwork to investigate the nature and extent of soil, sediment, groundwater, and other media contamination
  • Develop plans to prevent, control, or fix environmental problems
  • Perform program research, planning and development, compliance monitoring, and technical support services in relation to air, water, waste, corrective action, mining, biology, and other environmental issues
  • Write reports that present research findings and guidance to stakeholders
  • Provide guidance to the public, government organizations, and businesses to mitigate environmental and health hazards.

Education Requirements & Qualifications
Education: A bachelor's degree in environmental science/ environmental engineering/environmental planning/ Social Work. Alternatively, you can begin your career with a graduate degree in Botany/Zoology/Chemistry. A master's degree is usually required to advance in this field. Experience: Minimum 1-2 years experience in the relevant section is a must.

Skills & Competencies
You will need certain soft skills in addition to the technical skills:

Communication skills: Excellent verbal communication, listening, and writing skills will allow you to share research findings with your colleagues. Good command over English/Hindi/Marathi. Highly computer literate with capability in email, MS Office and related business and communication tools.
Critical thinking skills: To solve problems you will need the ability to weigh the merits of possible solutions.
Analytical skills: You will need to analyze your research findings and be able to understand colleagues' findings.
Self-discipline: You'll frequently have to work independently, which will require you to be very focused and motivated. Work well under pressure and meets tight deadlines.  

Work Environment
You will work in office/laboratory as well as do fieldwork outdoors, and sometimes travel to meet with clients or present research findings.

Work Schedule
During the field works, it is flexi hours but often include working more than 40 hours a week.
