Sacred Heart High School, Vashi, Navi-Mumbai is the first school to established its Butterfly Garden On 21 October 2016. Around 25 employees of Videojet Technologies India Pvt Ltd helped in plantation works. Around 100 saplings of larval host plant and nectar plants were planted and in the next month (November) 50 more wedelia cuttings were planted. The aim of this 1 year project is to support butterfly conservation by creating more space for butterflies and also to add support to the curriculum of environment studies.
UPDATES: We conduct assessment of the site quarterly for health of plants and increase in butterfly sightings. Before the start of the project we recorded one butterfly species and after our project we have now recorded around 4 (June 2017) butterflies. We also conducted nature trails for the students during the reviews. All the plants are surviving with 0% mortality and the plants have also started re-regenerating on its own. Students also work in the garden and help in maintaining it.
