This was our first site that was developed into a butterfly habitat in 2015. The place is known for good butterfly diversity and we intended to enhance the same by planting 7000 saplings of 32 species in first (2015) year and 800 saplings during second (2016) year. The site was completely barren and we carried out the plantation during summer (see before and after images). We conduct assessment of the site twice a year for health of plants and increase in butterfly sightings.
UPDATES: Before start of the project we recorded 10 butterfly species and after our project we recorded 20 butterfly species. The site suffered water issues which affected the survival rate of the plantation which was found to be 60%. We conduct habitat restoration activities with help of corporate volunteers who have helped in de-weeding and re-plantation activities. So far 126 volunteers have worked at the site. The habitat had flourished and had become lush green in the rainy season (2016) but in summer due to the lack of water there were only 38% of the plant surviving.
